Goal 1: Characterize the geology of the Martian surface through its mineralogy
- Identify minerals and their distribution
- Characterize mineral textures, such as grain size and crystallinity
- Determine the level of shock experienced by minerals
Goal 2: Investigate the role of water on the Martian surface through its mineralogy
- Detect minerals that may have formed as alteration products or precipitated from water
- Determine the hydration state of minerals
- Determine the redox state of minerals
